Flight to Kutaisi. Group meeting. Transfer (approximately 4 hours) to Svaneti, to the village of Mestia (1400 m above sea level). Dinner.
In the morning, we meet the horses and get acquainted with them. We set off on our journey, enjoying breathtaking panoramic views throughout the day. The trail passes by numerous Svanetian structures—Svaneti is rightly called the Land of a Thousand Towers. By evening, we arrive in the village of Chvabiani and stay overnight in a guesthouse.
Today, we journey to the village of Adishi, located at an altitude of 2,100 meters on the slopes of Mount Tetnuldi. Its peak seems to hover above Adishi. This is one of the oldest surviving villages in Svaneti. The oldest Georgian Gospel was written here in 897 AD. For a long time, it was kept in the local museum, but over time, it was transferred to the Mestia Museum. Adishi is a small village with only twelve families, and in winter, only four remain. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse.
Passing through ancient villages and a waterfall, we will stop in the remote village of Khalde, away from the main roads. Khalde is one of the most picturesque villages in Svaneti, set against a stunning backdrop of surrounding glaciers. Currently, only one family lives here. In the evening, we will reach the village of Lalhori and stay overnight in a guesthouse.
On this day, we will ride along scenic lakes and descend in the evening to Ushguli, one of the highest mountain villages in Europe. The village is filled with stunning medieval architecture and has the highest concentration of Svan towers. The Ushguli community is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ushguli is located at the foot of Mount Shkhara, the highest peak in Georgia, reaching around 5,200 meters. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse.
In the morning, we head to the Shkhara Glacier. Then, transfer to Mestia, followed by a transfer to a hotel in Kutaisi (approximately 4 hours). Overnight stay at the hotel.
Transfer (1 hour) to Martvili Canyon. A natural monument – an erosional canyon of the Abasha River. Boat trip through the canyon. Transfer to the hotel.
Transfer from the hotel to the airport. Flight home.
Svaneti is the perfect destination for those who want to combine extreme sports with a gastronomic marathon. First, you cross rushing rivers, then conquer mountain passes, and by the end of the day, you dive into the world of khinkali and chacha. The horses here are so resilient that I felt ashamed to complain!
Svaneti welcomes you with its ancient towers and bids farewell through the stunning Martvili Canyon. The journey is a test of trust—you trust your horse, and it trusts you. A fair deal. The horses are resilient, the views are breathtaking, and the route flows at a natural, unhurried pace. And in the canyon, you suddenly realize: there’s no need to rush to see what truly matters.
